WEHAV
“A Continent In Crisis”
Across the Global South — from the Sahel to the Horn of Africa to the Gulf Coast of the Americas — communities are being uprooted by climate disasters. Floods, droughts, wildfires, heatwaves, and resource conflicts are forcing millions to leave their homes, often with nowhere safe or stable to go.
The World Bank estimates that by 2050, over 85 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa alone will be displaced by climate-related factors. Yet global response systems remain underfunded, reactive, and unequipped to handle displacement with justice, foresight, or dignity.
Instead of planning for movement, governments often punish it. Instead of supporting those who remain in fragile environments, the world forgets them. Displacement is treated as a problem — not a condition that demands protection, creativity, and care.

We Carry Shelter Forward
WEHAV (Working to Expand Housing Access & Viability) is a global nonprofit committed to shifting how the world prepares for, responds to, and supports people experiencing climate-driven displacement.
We focus especially on Africa and the Global South, where climate impacts are accelerating, resources are stretched thin, and displaced people are often pushed to the margins.
